I had a great time at the 2018 AlpenKammerMusik Festival, held in the tiny town of Liesing, Austria in the beautiful Lesachtal Valley. Co-directors Randall Scarlata and Tanya Bannister have put together a unique festival devoted to instrumental and vocal chamber music. Superb faculty, talented amateurs and accomplished students from across the world came together for 2 weeks of work and performances and fun.
My “Long Pond Revisited” cycle, to poems of Charlene Shepherd, was performed by US baritone Randall Scarlata and Swiss cellist Joachim Müller-Crepon at Schloss Weildegg in Würmlach and then again at the beautiful Basilica Maria Luggau. My Holocaust-themed cycle “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” was performed at the Kultursall Lesachtal in Leising — with vocalists Natasha Drake, Lauren Longhi and Jenn Smith accompanied by clarinetist Lars Wouters and bassoonist Alexander Bakker from the Netherlands.
