Independent Opera Company has produced a short documentary about Lori’s 2004 song cycle, The Seed of Dream.
The work was commissioned by Music of Remembrance, and is scored for baritone (or mezzo-soprano), cello and piano. The five poems by pre-eminent Yiddish poet Abraham Sutzkever, (four in translation by Pulitzer Prize winner C.K. Williams and one by Leonard Wolf) provide a first-hand glimpse of life in the Vilna Ghetto during WWII.
Baritone Aaron Ball, cellist Thomas Lovasz and pianist Galina Barskaya have truly internalized the music and bring it to life in a thrilling manner. Commentary is provided from interviews with the performers and myself.
The work is streaming on demand from April 8-22, 2021 and tickets are available here.
Hope you can tune in to hear why Sharon Mabry of The Journal of Singing wrote: “This cycle is indeed a masterpiece that should not be missed!”
