Eastman Opera Outreach to perform "The Three Feathers, Abridged"

On April 4, 2017, Eastman Opera Outreach of The Eastman School of Music will perform the abridged version of my family opera The Three Feathers at the George Mather Forbes Elementary School in Rochester, NY.

The opera, to a libretto by Dana Gioia, is based on a little known fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. It was commissioned by The Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, and premiered there in October 2014 in a production directed by Beth Greenberg and conducted by Scott Williamson.

Our hero is a shy young princess named Dora. A magic feather leads her to an enchanted Underworld ruled by a giant Frog King. Here she summons her courage and compassion to face a series of mysterious and comic adventures that change her life. Completing her quest, she saves her father's kingdom from the plots of her selfish sisters and earns the right to the crown.

The Abriged version is scored for 7 singers and piano and is approximately 45 minutes in length.
